OffshoreInsiders.com Handicapper Matt Rivers says go with the NY Mets in the game that Johan Santana pitches. That is likely Game 1 laying -151.
I had this play backing Johan as a pay play yesterday but the game was rained out. I still like it but am not as gaga in this doubleheader situation which can complicate matters. I do though like this game a little and the other game, the one involving Jon Niese better and therefore that bad boy has supplanted this winner today. But as for the Thursday comp...
Johan is just too cheap here. Mat Latos is a young kid that is becoming very good but Johan is still Johan and should be a heftier chalk today.
I have faded the Padres a lot of late and I do admit that I have underated them because I have lost my fair share but when push comes to shove the Friars are still not a hard hitting team that should continue to win ballgames. Besides Adrian Gonzalez there just isn’t much else there. The Hairston brothers? Eckstein? Headley? Gwynn? I will give them their due for playing high quality ball thus far and the bullpen has been really solid anchored by Heath Bell but the Mets are pretty good of late themselves and with Santana hurling I just do not see the home boys losing here at Citi Field.
Wright, Reyes, Bay and the New Yorkers are not great but they are much better than they were a season ago in that injury filled debacle and to only lay this price is a rare chalk eating play for me.
The pick: NY Mets with Santana -151
